Art Statement
In 1908 Henri Matisse said,
The chief aim of color should be to serve expression as well as possible...What I dream of is an art of balance, of purity and serenity devoid of troubling or depressing subject matter, an art...like an appeasing influence, like a mental smoother, something like a good armchair in which to rest from physical fatigue.
The purpose of creating art is to separate the viewer from the common world and take them to a place that allows them to use their imagination. As Matisse explained, provide comfort and peace, this will allow room for expression and thought. That is why I paint, to celebrate cheerful aspects of human life. My pieces are typically full of color and I would consider them very vibrant; unless it is meant not to have much color, but I still make sure I add texture, depth, and balance. Mediums I like to use are chalk, clay, oil pastels and watercolor. When I use these mediums, I am able to provide my own classification of what an art piece should look like, and imitate the strokes, lines, and textures of some of my favorite painters such as Claude Monet, Gustav Klimt, Van Gogh and Frida Kahlo.
As an artist there is not one area I would like to focus, I hope to continue to explore different types of mediums, especially those I am not familiar with and I hope to one day say I have some experience or some knowledge working with them all or at least most of them. I would like to contribute to the world of art in a profound way and I hope to embrace all art and all cultures and communities no matter the origin or history of art. This will allow me to be more culturally diversified and more well-rounded. Creating a foundation where I can use my own techniques and art experiences in art while using ideas of other artist will make me feel very accomplished as an artist.
